One of the great benefits of cutting edge marketing software is the ability to integrate one piece of technology with another.

By integrating survey software with an email marketing automation solution like ActiveCampaign, you can track and follow up with survey respondents without having to enter data manually. The type of data that can be passed between programs varies so it is important to understand the depth of integration offered before purchasing.

Here are 11 survey software options that integrate to some degree with ActiveCampaign including cost comparisons and whether or not they require the integration automation program Zapier to make it happen.

It is important to note that these software options fall into two categories: general form software that includes survey options and software that specializes in surveys.

Table Explanation:

Integration level is how much data is sent from the survey software to ActiveCampaign. “High” means basically all data is brought in whereas “Low” means only a name or an email address and not survey responses themselves are integrated. Cost comparisons are based on collecting 1,000 survey responses a month at the time of this article.

Software Integration Level Zapier Required? Cost Per 1,000/Mo.
SurveyMonkey High Yes $86
Google Forms Low Yes $54
Formstack Low Yes $113
SurveyGizmo Mid Yes $89
SurveyMethods Low Yes $63
JotForm Mid No $48
TypeForm High No $64
Survicate High No $128
123FormBuilder Low No $55

#1 – SurveyMonkey

SurveyMonkey is synonymous with survey software, having become a leader in the market early on and maintaining that lead. The software makes it fairly easy to set up a survey with pre-written questions and templates to get started quickly.

Leveraging the power of emerging technology, SurveyMonkey includes a feature called “Genius” that uses AI, survey experts, and machine learning to recommend what type of question you should use as you type it out. The program will also autofill the question answers for you and then automatically predict the completion rate and time it would take a user to complete the survey.

Here’s an example of survey creation with SurveyMonkey:

With an annual paid plan that includes the “Extract Data” option, SurveyMonkey will send survey answers over to your contact information in ActiveCampaign using Zapier. If you do not need survey answers but only want to add or update a contact in ActiveCampaign, you can do so without Zapier.

Integration Requirements:

  • SurveyMonkey annual paid plan with “Extract Data” option + Zapier + ActiveCampaign

Integration Functionality:

  • Your ActiveCampaign contacts will be automatically updated with their survey responses from SurveyMonkey

Example Cost Projection – 1,000 Survey Responses per Month

Zapier only allows 100 integration tasks per month on their basic plan and ActiveCampaign only allows 500 contacts (people) in their system on their cheapest plan. To step up to 1,000 contacts and 1,000 survey responses, here is the projected cost at the time of writing:

  • ActiveCampaign Lite Plan with 1,000 contacts – $29/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • Zapier Starter Plan with 1,000 tasks – $25/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • SurveyMonkey Advantage Individual Plan – $32/month (billed annually)

Total Cost – $86/month (costs may have changed by the time you read this)

#2 – Google Forms

https://www.google.com/forms/about/

When you don’t need a lot of features from your survey software, sometimes its nice to just use a free tool. That’s what you get with Google Forms.

With Google Forms you can create surveys with the following question types: short answer, paragraph, multiple choice, checkboxes, and drop downs. Survey responses are automatically collected and viewable in various charts or ready to integrate into Google Sheets.

Integration Requirements:

  • Google Forms + Zapier + ActiveCampaign

Integration Functionality:

  • Form submission can create a new contact in ActiveCampaign if an email address is provided.

Example Cost Projection – 1,000 Survey Responses per Month

  • ActiveCampaign Lite Plan with 1,000 contacts – $29/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • Zapier Starter Plan with 1,000 tasks – $25/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • Google Forms Personal Plan – Free

Total Cost – $54/month (costs may have changed by the time you read this)

#3 – Formstack

https://www.formstack.com

Formstack isn’t a survey specific software but does have a nice feature where you can create “one question at a time” surveys that work especially well on mobile devices.

Survey features include:

  • 15 question types
  • A few hundred survey templates branded for different industries
  • Conditional logic feature where you can show or hide questions based on previous answers
  • Reporting tools to analyze answers and response rates
  • Customize the look and feel with themes, logo, css
  • Offline survey capability
  • Bottleneck feature shows where respondents drop off within a survey so you can fix any problems and improve completion rates

Integration Requirements:

  • Formstack + Zapier + ActiveCampaign

Integration Functionality:

  • Send Formstack survey results to ActiveCampaign and create new contacts (unclear whether existing contacts can be updated with Formstack survey data)

Example Cost Projection – 1,000 Survey Responses per Month

  • ActiveCampaign Lite Plan with 1,000 contacts – $29/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • Zapier Starter Plan with 1,000 tasks – $25/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • Formstack Silver Plan – $59/month (discounts for annual payment)

Total Cost – $113/month (costs may have changed by the time you read this)

#4 – SurveyGizmo

https://www.surveygizmo.com/

SurveyGizmo is another dedicated survey software solution that provides ActiveCampaign integration. For roughly the same cost as SurveyMonkey on our sample plan below, it doesn’t seem to quite offer the same amount of features.

Integration Requirements:

  • SurveyGizmo + Zapier + ActiveCampaign

Integration Functionality:

  • New survey completers can be added to a subscription list, entered into an automation or deal in your sales pipeline.

Example Cost Projection – 1,000 Survey Responses per Month

  • ActiveCampaign Lite Plan with 1,000 contacts – $29/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • Zapier Starter Plan with 1,000 tasks – $25/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • SurveyGizmo Collaborator Plan – $35/month (discounts for annual payment)

Total Cost – $89/month (costs may have changed by the time you read this)

#5 – SurveyMethods

https://surveymethods.com/

SurveyMethods touts its award winning ease of use software and has very cost effective plans. They provide 20 different types of survey questions, custom branding (logo, colors, fonts, etc.), page logic to customize the flow of the survey questions, and many other options depending on which plan you choose.

Integration Requirements:

  • SurveyMethods + Zapier + ActiveCampaign

Integration Functionality:

  • New contacts can be added into ActiveCampaign or existing contacts updated. Unclear whether actual survey responses are passed on.

Example Cost Projection – 1,000 Survey Responses per Month

  • ActiveCampaign Lite Plan with 1,000 contacts – $29/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • Zapier Starter Plan with 1,000 tasks – $25/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • SurveyMethods Advanced Plan – $9/month

Total Cost – $63/month (costs may have changed by the time you read this)

#6 – JotForm

https://www.jotform.com/

JotForm is a general form creation software that has the capability for building basic surveys. It includes 306 existing templates that you can use to create surveys quickly. They also provide over 100 questionnaire templates you can also adopt.

JotForm does not have the reporting features or question logic options as a dedicated survey software provider but does the basics and integrates directly with ActiveCampaign without the use of Zapier. For our example cost projection using 1,000 response per month, it is the lowest cost option in this list.

Integration Requirements:

  • JotForm + ActiveCampaign

Integration Functionality:

  • Direct integration without requiring Zapier. Form fields can be mapped to ActiveCampaign. It is unclear whether survey responses can be passed.

Example Cost Projection – 1,000 Survey Responses per Month

  • ActiveCampaign Lite Plan with 1,000 contacts – $29/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • JotForm Bronze Plan – $19/month

Total Cost – $48/month (costs may have changed by the time you read this)

#7 – Typeform

https://www.typeform.com/

Typeform is another general form builder that includes around 20 survey and questionnaire templates. Its features seem much more geared toward integrated form data with other programs than it does conducting surveys. This might be a good option if you have more of a need for its form capabilities than you do powerful survey features.

Integration Requirements:

  • Typeform + ActiveCampaign

Integration Functionality:

  • All data collected via survey can be brought into ActiveCampaign

Example Cost Projection – 1,000 Survey Responses per Month

  • ActiveCampaign Lite Plan with 1,000 contacts – $29/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • Typeform Essentials Plan – $35/month

Total Cost – $64/month (costs may have changed by the time you read this)

#8 – Survicate

https://survicate.com/

Survicate wins for being the most expensive option in our sample price comparison scenarios due to requiring a $99/month professional plan to handle 1,000 surveys a month. It’s unclear what this program offers that SurveyMonkey doesn’t other than it does not require Zapier to integrate with ActiveCampaign to bring over survey responses.

Integration Requirements:

  • Survicate + ActiveCampaign

Integration Functionality:

  • Survey answers are associated with respondents. Respondents can then be segmented based on answers provided.

Example Cost Projection – 1,000 Survey Responses per Month

  • ActiveCampaign Lite Plan with 1,000 contacts – $29/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • Survicate Professional Plan – $99/month

Total Cost – $128/month (costs may have changed by the time you read this)

#9 – 123FormBuilder

https://www.123formbuilder.com/

123FormBuilder is another “no coding required” form software creator. Surveys can be created quickly and monitored with real-time reporting. Created surveys can easily be embedded using provided embed codes or added to a webpage using the Lightbox options. Facebook page survey embedding is also an option.

There are over 190 pre-built survey and questionnaire templates available for quick survey creation.

123FormBuilder has a fairly low monthly cost in our comparison example and does not require Zapier for ActiveCampaign integration which makes it the second lowest priced option.

Integration Requirements:

  • 123FormBuilder + ActiveCampaign

Integration Functionality:

  • Add or update existing contacts.

Example Cost Projection – 1,000 Survey Responses per Month

  • ActiveCampaign Lite Plan with 1,000 contacts – $29/month (discounts for annual payment)
  • 123FormBuilder Gold Plan – $24.99/month

Total Cost – $55/month (costs may have changed by the time you read this)

So Which One Should You Pick?

I recommend choosing a survey software option with the very highest data integration with ActiveCampaign so whatever information you collect from your surveys will be passed along. This allows you to open ActiveCampaign and have the highest level of insight into your contacts in one place without having to find the data in the survey software.

Additionally, I feel that using software that actually specializes in surveys will give you the greatest functionality and success in collecting the best feedback from your website visitors. If you are going to take the time and expense to survey, best to do it right.

With that in mind, I recommend using the industry leading SurveyMonkey combined with Zapier to provide deep data integration with ActiveCampaign.
